Mirka DEXOS Dust Extractor Control Panel

We are extremely excited to share the biggest release from Mirka since the DEROS in 2012! And we think it might be the best M Class Dust Extractor on the market.

Mirka DEXOS Dust Extractor in use

In this blog we are going to run through the key features of Mirka’s first own built Dust Extractor to help you decide whether you think it is worth investing in.

Designed from the ground up to optimise compatibility with all Mirka Sanding Tools, this 17 Litre Capacity vacuum takes dust free sanding to the next level, adding to the long list of Mirka’s innovative products.

Why create a new dust extractor?

Until now, the Mirka range and the general market have been missing a small, portable but powerful M class dust extractor. That is exactly what Mirka have achieved (and more) with the DEXOS. The DEXOS is the most advanced dust extractor on the market and with a surprisingly reasonable price tag, coming in at £612.50 including VAT, over £100 less than the 1230M model.

The 1200W brushless motor offers reliable and long lasting power. Its extraction is equivalent to the 1230M, but with a much smaller footprint. In fact, Mirka have focused on making the DEXOS as easy to carry, store and transport as possible. The outer shape is square, making it easy to stack around in a van. Additionally, the hose and cable can be neatly stowed in the top of the extractor with a fastened lid to keep it all contained. The lid is also made to attach Mirka’s systainer cases and toolbox to, so no added accessory is required. The cherry on the cake is the footbrake which anchors the extractor when in use or in

The DEXOS Auto Start Remote

The best new accessory to be released with, but sold separately to the DEXOS is the DEXOS Auto Start Remote. This allows the use of the DEXOS with Cordless, Battery, Pneumatic and 110V tools (if the 110V is connected to another power source). The slick device straps to the extraction hose, just below the tool outlet. The remote is connected to the DEXOS by Bluetooth. Users can either choose to activate the extractor manually or automatically using the vibration sensor. See the unboxing below and the full description of the functionality at the bottom of this blog.

We think that the DEXOS is going to be popular with Joiners, Floorers, Decorators and Furniture Makers.

The key features that set the DEXOS apart from the competition:

  • High power, small size.
  • Compatible with all 230V, Cordless, Pneumatic and 110v sanders when used with the Mirka Autostart Remote Control
  • Two power outlets - the primary outlet under the lid is alway extractor auto start and the secondary outlet extractor auto start can be switched off to just provide constant power to your device.
  • Compatible for bagless extraction
  • Wet extraction - 14L maximum with automatic cut out when at full capacity
  • Easy to use control panel
  • Easily replaceable cooling and dust filters
  • Versatility with tools and uses - run all your tools off one machine
  • Brushless motor - There’s less friction in the motor which offers less power consumption and heat. Also, brushless motors don’t wear out as quickly.
  • Auto Filter Clean - helps maintain the health of the machine, reduces need to replace the filter - frequency can be changed in MyMirka App once connected.
  • Switch off AFC if desired - Manual push-clean is recommended at least every 8 hours of use
  • 5-step power level adjust for material or usage
  • 5 easy change settings for the hose diameter (more information below)
  • Designed to optimise workplace safety cleanliness and efficiency
  • Foot brake keeps the extractor where it needs to be
  • Bluetooth connectivity to MyMirka app allows the user to change settings, automatic filter clean frequency and monitor warnings or faults
  • Designed for neatness and convenience for carrying and transport
  • Vertical, easy to remove inlet for bag for maximum fill and no spill

What is an M Class Dust Extractor and Why do you need it?

M Class Dust Extractors are  for professional users to comply with HSE regulations on site and in commercial workshops. The M stands for Medium risk dust, which includes wood, plaster, filler, latex and oil paints. The OEL (occupational exposure limit) for these types of dust is less than 0.1mg/m3. This requires the dust extractor to retain 99.9% of the dust it vacuums to comply with regulations.

Another complying specification is the airflow. The Airflow must be a minimum of 20m/s in the hose. Hence the DEXOS 1217M has multiple hose diameter settings. The default setting on the machine is 27mm, which is the standard hose inlet size of Mirka sander hoses (at the sander end). For example, you would change the setting down to 20mm if you were using the DEXOS with the Mirka Handy Tool hose.

M Class extractors aren’t recommended for:

  • Hazardous Dust with OEL values above 0.1 mg/m3
  • Hot materials (burning cigarettes, hot ash etc)
  • Flammable, explosive or reactive liquids such as petrol, solvents, strong acids or alkalis
  • Flammable or explosive dust such as Magnesium or aluminum dust.

DEXOS Bluetooth Enhanced Connectivity

The Mirka DEXOS connects to the MyMirka app via Bluetooth to enable the user to control all the settings on the physical machine, but also keep an eye on the vital signs of the machine. More development is expected of the next 12 months to increase the monitoring, but we’ve listed the features now controllable from the app below:

Control the following from the app:

  • Auto filter clean “bang” intervals
  • Hose size setting for air flow
  • Power setting
  • Air flow level
  • Auto start setting on secondary outlet

Monitors the following parameters:

  • Firmware updates
  • Low airflow warnings
  • Hot motor alarm
  • Hot PCB alarm (main circuit board)
  • Running time display
  • Shutdown Cause Log
  • Count of stops due to hot motor
  • count of stops due to hot PCB

DEXOS Remote Control

As mentioned earlier, the DEXOS remote control unlocks usability with a huge range of tools on site or in the workshop. The device feels heavy duty and has a soft shell to prevent scuffing. The strap is also robust rubber that can deal with being taken on and off regularly.

The controller removes the need for the expensive and clunky Pneumatic box required for use of power tools with the 1230M.

How the DEXOS remote works

The remote connects to the extractor via Bluetooth, with a range of up to 20m. There are two functions: Manual and Auto Start.

For Auto Start with pneumatic or cordless tools, press the start button or “A” for auto sense. The DEXOS Remote Control then senses the vibration of the tool and starts the extraction and stops 5 seconds after the vibration ends.

The Manual start is for use with hand tools that aren’t vibrating or if you’re using a cleanup kit. Once connected to the extractor, simply press the start button and the extractor will start, saving you from walking back and forth to the

Conclusion

In conclusion, we absolutely love the DEXOS and think that all of you will too. We were concerned that, with all the features and R&D that have gone into making the DEXOS in house at Mirka, the price tag would be too high. However they’ve priced it very well, and have listened to customer feedback from years past, to create a very user friendly machine. Although the weight isn’t the lightest, coming in at 16kg, the size and shape make it much easier to carry than the 1230.
