How To Apply Liberon Decking Oil

Preparation

Use a stiff bristled brush to sweep away any loose leaves or moss. Use Liberon Tough Deck Clean & Reviver to clean off any algae, dirt and any old decking treatment. This cleaner and reviver will also restore the natural colour to the decking if it has greyed, which is especially preferable if applying Liberon Decking Oil Clear.

If the old decking finish is peeling or flaking, you'll need to use a Decking Stripper, such as Ronseal Decking Stripper or Cuprinol Stain Stripper. Once the old finish is completely removed, you're ready to apply decking treatment.

Note: Cleaning will completely remove any protection of a previous preservative, oil, treatment, stain or paint. Hence, it is advisable to apply the wood Decking Oil within a week of cleaning if possible.

Application Method

Make sure your decking is completely dry after cleaning.

Complete a test patch in an inconspicuous place, especially if using Medium Oak or Teak colours. This is because the colouring intensity can vary depending on the age, roughness and moisture in your decking. The more absorbent your decking, the darker the colour will be. If you apply one coat of coloured decking oil and you are happy with the depth of colour, you can apply the next coats in Clear for protection.

Apply with a natural bristled brush by hand using Marshall Premium Exterior Wood Care Brush 120mm or the Osmo Floor Brush 220mm if you wish to use a broom handle. You can also use a Microfibre Roller or sprayer to apply.

Allow 15-30 minutes for the oil to absorb into the wood then apply the second coat before the first coat dries.  2 coats are often sufficient but further coats can be applied if the wood is particularly absorbent.  Wipe away any excess oil with a lint-free cloth and allow 24-48 hours before using the deck.

Available colours:  Clear, Medium Oak, Teak

Note: Liberon Decking Oil is not suitable for some oily, dense grained hardwoods, such as Iroko, Balau, Ipe and Sapele. It is advised that exotic hardwoods are left to weather without coating for up to 12 months before adding any wood oil.
