Description

Fiddes Liming Paste is designed to achieve a white base colour on bare wood, perfect for achieving a traditional limed finish on open grained wood, such as Oak, or other deeply grained woods. Liming Paste will fill the open grain to produce a contrasting white tone, which emphasises the grain across the surface.

The wood needs to be bare, clean, dry and free from any previous coatings. Prepare the wood by sanding in stages, starting with a P120 grit abrasive through to P180 to 240 grit. It is good practice to open up the grain with a brass brush, which will also clean any residual dust from the wood pores. At this point, wipe over the surface with a tack cloth so remove any remaining dust. Apply the paste liberally with a lint free cloth across the grain. Use a damp cloth to lightly wipe across the grain ensuring the liming paste remains in the grain and then lightly sand in the direction of the grain.

Repeat the process if more intensity of the Liming Paste is required in the grain. Once completed, apply Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, Clear Glaze, Shellac or Spray Lacquer to finish.

* Note: If you wish the liming to stay white in the grain, rather than a warmed honey colour, use the Natural / Oak Lightening Hard Wax Oil.

To add to the limed appearance once the oil has dried, leave for a week to fully set and then apply Fiddes Liming Wax.
