Description

Restorate Oil Wood Dye is a naphtha based oil stain that should be applied directly to stripped or sanded wood. Oil stains offer a deeper, richer colour than Water or Spirit based stains or dyes. This stain requires finishing with Shellac French Polish or Cellulose (Pre-Catalysed or Acid Catalyst) Lacquer.

Dry time: 6-8 hours at room temperature
Clean up/Thinner: White Spirit or Naphtha Thinners
Coverage: 10 square metres per litre, per coat
Application tool: Cotton Cloth, Foam Applicator, or Brush
Finish with: Shellac French Polish or Cellulose Lacquer

Preparation
If working on antiques, remove all existing finish with paint stripper or meths. If any of the pre-existing finish resides, the stain will not take to the wood in those patches. Degrease the surface with methylated spirits and allow to dry prior to application. We strongly advise against sanding antiques for preparation.
If working on new or contemporary furniture, sand the surface with up to P240 and use a tack cloth to remove dust, then degrease.

Grain Filling
If you wish to fill the grain, do so with a grain filler prior to staining. Restorate Wood Oil Stain can be mixed with traditional grain fillers. If you intend to use a sanding sealer to fill the grain, stain first, allow to dry fully and then apply.

Application
Apply with either a foam applicator, cloth or brush in the direction of the grain, ensuring that the stain goes into any open grain. Wipe off any excess in the direction of the grain. Allow to dry for at least 6-8 hours before finishing.

Finishing
If you are French Polishing, carefully brush a thin layer of shellac polish in the direction of the grain. Once cured, begin using a rubber to build the surface finish.
If finishing with a spray lacquer, apply a base coat or lacquer.
