Mylands Crackle Glaze is designed to give an antique appearance to newly painted surfaces. This appearance is achieved by allowing the top coat of paint to crack thereby allowing the underneath coat to show through the cracks.

Please note that Mylands Crackle Glaze will only work when used in conjunction with water-based emulsion paints.

Application: Apply a basecoat of emulsion paint to the article to be finished and allow to dry thoroughly.  Brush a coat of Mylands Crackle Glaze on and allow it to become touch dry, (approximately 30 minutes). Carefully brush on a thinned final coat of emulsion paint, taking care so that only one brush stroke is applied over the crackle glaze. If the top coat of emulsion is over-brushed the process will not work. Following this procedure, the top coat will begin to crack almost immediately.

Please note: It is recommended that a trial piece is practised on to perfect the technique, as the thickness of top coat and speed of brushing will give different size cracks.

The final result can be protected with a coat of spirit/oil based varnish. (water-based varnish should not be used as it would crack).
