Which Mirka abrasives are best for decorating work?

The right abrasive depends on the surface and the stage of preparation. Mirka Abranet is a versatile choice for general sanding and works particularly well with dust extraction, while Abranet Ace HD is designed for heavier sanding work. For hand sanding and finishing, Mirka Goldflex Soft provides a flexible abrasive that is useful around profiles, edges, and detailed areas.

How do I get a smooth finish when filling and sanding walls?

The quality of the final finish is often determined by how well the filled areas are prepared. A suitable decorating filler such as Toupret Redlite can be sanded back ready for painting, while using an appropriate fine-grade abrasive, such as Mirka Abranet P180-P240, helps remove imperfections without unnecessarily cutting into the surrounding surface.

What should I use when repairing damaged wood before painting?

For small defects, a conventional wood filler may be sufficient, but deeper or more significant damage can require a more durable repair. Repair Care DRY FLEX provides a two-part epoxy system for rebuilding damaged wood, while Timbabuild EHB60 offers another epoxy-based option for wood repair. Once cured, the repair can be shaped, sanded, and incorporated into the subsequent decorating process.

How can I avoid sanding marks showing through the final coat?

The surface needs to be progressively refined rather than relying on one very fine abrasive at the end. Mirka Abranet and Abranet Ace are available in a wide range of grades, allowing the surface to be worked progressively, while products such as Mirka Mirlon can be useful for finer preparation and between-coat work where appropriate.

Which finish should I use on interior woodwork?

The right finish depends on the wood, the level of wear, and the appearance required. For example, Osmo Polyx Oil provides a hardwearing oil-based finish for suitable interior wood, while Osmo TopOil is specifically formulated for interior wood surfaces such as worktops and other areas where resistance to everyday use matters.
