Osmo Polyx Oil Interior Hard Wax Oil FAQs

Why choose Osmo Polyx Oil?

Osmo Polyx Oil combines natural oils and waxes to protect interior wood while enhancing its natural grain and character. Unlike traditional varnishes, it penetrates deeply into the wood to create a breathable, microporous finish that won’t crack, peel, or flake over time.

It provides excellent resistance against water, wine, coffee, and everyday household spills, making it ideal for wooden floors, furniture, worktops, and interior joinery. Available in a range of finishes from matt to satin, it delivers a durable, natural-looking finish without masking the beauty of the wood.

What can it be used on?

Osmo Polyx Oil is suitable for: wooden floors; furniture; worktops; doors and interior joinery; staircases; and children’s toys.

It is suitable for most interior bare or previously oiled wood surfaces.

How do I apply Osmo Polyx Oil?

1. Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from dust.
2. Sand smooth, finishing around P120–P150 depending on the surface. No primer is normally required.
3. Stir the product thoroughly before use.
4. Apply a very thin coat using an Osmo brush, floor brush, roller, or cloth.
5. Leave to dry for approximately 8-12 hours with good ventilation.
6. Apply a second thin coat.

How many coats do I need?

Most bare wood surfaces require two thin coats. For maintenance or refreshing existing Osmo finishes, one coat is often sufficient.

What finish does it leave?

Depending on the product chosen, finishes range from matt and clear matt through to satin and semi-matt. All are designed to enhance the natural appearance of the wood rather than create a thick plastic-looking coating.

Is Osmo Polyx Oil durable?

Yes. It is highly durable and abrasion resistant, making it suitable for high-traffic areas such as wooden flooring and busy family homes.

Is it waterproof?

It's water-repellent rather than fully waterproof. It resists common household liquids including water, tea, coffee, wine, and juice when properly applied and maintained.

Can it be spot repaired?

Yes. One of the advantages of Osmo Polyx Oil is that worn or damaged areas can usually be repaired locally without sanding the entire floor or surface.

How do I maintain wood finished with Osmo Polyx Oil?

Clean surfaces regularly using Osmo Wash and Care or Spray Cleaner. Worn areas can be refreshed using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner or Maintenance Oil without extensive sanding.
