Remove paint
Begin by removing all paint, coatings and surface finishes from the repair area to expose the timber beneath. Common methods include burning off, hot air stripping and scraping.

2. Remove all decay
Cut away all rotten or weakened timber until only sound wood remains. Remove decay to at least 5mm into healthy timber using a router, saw or chisel to ensure the repair has a solid foundation.

3. Measure wood moisture
Before repairing, check the timber's moisture content using the Repair Care Easy•Q™ Wood Condition Meter. The moisture level should be 18% or below to ensure the timber is dry enough for a long-lasting repair.

4. Prime with DRY FIX®
Apply a thin coat of Repair Care DRY FIX® to all exposed timber surfaces. Leave for 20-45 minutes, then wipe away any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth. This strengthens the timber and promotes excellent adhesion between the wood and the repair compound.

5. Fill with DRY FLEX®
DRY FLEX® is supplied as two separate components that should be mixed in equal proportions using a Repair Care mixing board or clean mixing surface. Using a mixing knife, fold and spread the material repeatedly until it becomes a completely uniform colour with no streaks remaining.

Press the repair compound firmly against all exposed timber surfaces to maximise adhesion, then build up the repair in layers rather than applying one thick section.

6. Shape the repair
Once the repair has started to cure, trim away excess material and recreate the original timber profile. Shaping the repair before it fully hardens makes finishing quicker and reduces the amount of sanding required.

7. Sand and paint
Allow the repair to cure fully before sanding smooth. Apply a suitable primer within two weeks of completing the repair, then finish with your chosen paint system to protect the timber and achieve a seamless finish.

Top tips

Prime exposed timber with Repair Care DRY FIX® before applying DRY FLEX®.

Mix thoroughly until the colour is completely uniform - poor mixing can result in soft spots or incomplete curing.

Only mix as much material as you can apply within the product's working time.

Keep mixing tools clean to prevent contamination between batches.

Select the appropriate DRY FLEX® grade (1, 4 or 16) to suit the repair size, ambient temperature and the amount of working time you require.

Remove all decayed timber before beginning the repair.

Ensure the timber moisture content is no greater than 18%.

Press the repair compound firmly against all exposed timber surfaces before building up the repair in layers.

Specifications

Shelf life

2 years from manufacture, unopened

Storage

Cool, dry (5-40°C tolerance)

Working time at 20°C

20-25 mins

Curing time (1cm thick at 20°C)

4 hours

Application temperature

0-35°C

Repair thickness

5-20mm

MPN: 65864
