Fiddes Naphtha Oil Stain is an oil based dye that should be applied to bare timber before sealing with Fiddes Shellac Sealer or a shellac polish. It absorbs thoroughly to produce a deep rich colour whilst highlighting the grain. To tone down the colour the product can be diluted with Fiddes Naphtha Thinners

Naphtha Oil Stain dries more slowly than other spirit based dyes, which allows for better flexibility if colour matching or applying over a large surface area.  This makes it a favourite with antique restorers and cabinet makers.

Preparation:  Sand the wood in stages, starting with a P120 grit abrasive through to P180/240, working in the direction of the grain if possible.  Remove all traces of dust with a tack cloth and then test the chosen colour on a similar substrate to confirm the shade that will be achieved.

Stir thoroughly and apply with a lint free cloth or sponge in the direction of the wood grain where possible.  Immediately wipe away any excess with a clean absorbent cloth, again following the grain.  Wipe evenly to obtain a uniform colour.  One coat is usually sufficient but further coats can be applied if you wish to deepen the colour.  There is no need to sand between coats.
